Why does the ACDQ oppose the assignment of benefits?

The ACDQ opposes the assignment of benefits as a result of a resolution adopted by the Board of Directors on November 14, 2015. The reason for this is the countless situations experienced by our members where the assignment of benefits goes against their professional autonomy. When dentists accept the assignment of benefits, they assume all the risks of the reimbursement process. For example, if an insurer decides to reimburse a lower amount than it had initially determined, dentists have little recourse: They can absorb the loss, ask the patient to pay the amount, or try to talk to the insurer.

The ACDQ is also concerned about several other aspects that go against the interests of its members: payment scheduling, possibility of potential fees, account statement management, complicated bank reconciliations, insurer payment adjustments, administrative red tape, to name just a few. Finally, each insurer imposes all these constraints in its own way.
