Famine in Kenya

Terre Sans Frontières calls for help for those threatened by famine in Kenya and East Africa.

Terre Sans Frontières, following in the footsteps of several other Canadian NGOs, is sounding the call for donations to help those who are threatened by famine in the Horn of Africa.

Terre Sans Frontières is particularly concerned about the prevailing situation in Kenya, a country where the organization has been working for over 25 years.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, approximately three million people, which includes 2,400,000 citizens and 500,000 refugees from adjoining countries, are in a situation of food insecurity. "These people need our help, not only in meeting their most urgent needs, but also in starting projects that will make it possible for them to ensure their survival," explains Robert Gonneville, Chief Executive Officer of Terre Sans Frontières.

In total, over 10 million people from Djibouti, Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia are directly affected by the crisis, a situation whose main cause has been the worst drought recorded in the region in 60 years.

To make a donation, call 1 877 873-2433 or go to our Web site at www.terresansfrontieres.ca. The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) will match donations made by Canadians as part of this call for help. Terre Sans Frontières will send received all donations to Kenya through its longstanding partners in the field, such as the Frères de l’Instruction chrétienne.
