Dentists are currently being solicited by mail from a European company that calls itself “Industry + Commerce” or “Commerce and Industry” and not only uses the image of the maple leaf, but mentions “Business Register” on its stationary. This company has nothing to do with Industry Canada, the Canadian government agency.
The company offers to provide visibility for your office on its website (www.canada-commerce-industrie.com), which is operated out of Valencia, Spain. There seems to be no mention of cost until you receive the invoice for $1,500, and their contract is automatically renewed every year if it is not cancelled in writing three months before the end of the calendar year. However, if you receive such an invoice, we recommend that you immediately contact the company in writing to inform them that you want to cancel the contract.
We also suggest that you call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) as soon as possible at 1 888 495-8501 if you believe that you have been a victim of this company’s representations.
We remind you once again that you should be careful when you are solicited: thoroughly examine the source and every other aspect of solicitations before signing anything.
